The biggest economies in the world are concerned about global warming and greenhouse effect, and a lot of it is related to the generation of heat, steam and electricity from varied compressors and consumer products. Environment experts have stressed on the need for natural refrigerants, which are considered to be better, viable and sustainable than some of the regular choices. For the uninitiated, refrigerants are used in a number of commercial and consumer products, including HVAC systems and refrigerators.

What are the regular options?

Some of the regular refrigerants used in refrigerators and HVAC systems are based on hydrochlorofluorocarbon or HCFC, hydrofluorocarbon or HFC and chlorofluorocarbon CFC. All these chemicals are considered to be potent greenhouse gases and can have an adverse impact on the ozone layer.  Among all the three, CFCs are the worst among the lot.

Knowing natural refrigerants

The most common natural refrigerant is CO2 or Carbon dioxide. In the industrial terms, it is also referred to as R-744. It is more common in the automotive industry and many other commercial sectors and is not damaging to the ozone layer like CFCs. Ammonia or NH3 is the most economical of the lot and is effectively used for industrial refrigeration. Previously, it was used for refrigerators used at home, but it should be noted that this is a highly toxic gas. There are other choices as well, such as Hydrocarbon-based (HC) refrigerants, Isobutane, Propane and Propylene.

Getting industrial systems and compressors

If you want industrial systems installed and wish to make the most of natural refrigerants, you should first find a company that’s known for its range of compressors. You can find quite a few options for sure, but it’s important to work with a distributor and manufacturer who is concerned about the planet and offers choices in natural refrigerants. You can ask them about their experience in the industry and the clients they regularly work with. This is particularly important because the concerned seller should have a mission towards working for the environment. Of course, the price is an important factor and must be considered. Send your requirements and ask for a detailed proposal and estimate.

The use of natural refrigerants in the commercial world is not a choice anymore. Only when every party involved in the chain starts taking concrete steps to protect the ozone layer, we can reduce the escalating concerns related to global warming.
